Reloading 101: An Introduction to Loading Your Own Ammo Presented by Acri Ammunition —

🔸 Why Reload?

Reloading isn’t just about saving money — it’s about control, customization, and consistency.
At Acri Ammunition, we want shooters to understand the advantages of rolling their own ammo.

The Three C’s of Reloading:

  • Control – Fine-tune your loads for precision, power, or performance.

  • Convenience – Test small batches and adjust recipes without buying whole boxes of factory ammo.

  • Cost – Over time, reloading can significantly reduce the price per round.

🔸 What You’ll Need

Reloading metallic cartridges involves combining cases, primers, powder, and bullets with the right tools.

Essential Equipment

  • Reloading Press

    • Single-Stage: Simple, strong, reliable.

    • Turret: Faster, lets you rotate through dies.

    • Progressive: High-output, produces rounds every pull.

  • Dies – Resize, decap, expand, seat, and crimp cases.

  • Scale – Accuracy is critical! Choose mechanical or digital.

  • Powder Measure – Dispenses consistent charges.

  • Case Tools – Tumblers for cleaning, trimmers for length consistency.

  • Reloading Manual – Always use published, up-to-date load data.

🔸 The Reloading Process

  1. Resize & deprime the case

  2. Re-prime the case

  3. Flare case mouth (handgun & some rifles)

  4. Drop measured powder

  5. Seat bullet

  6. Crimp bullet

  7. Inspect finished round

🔸 Components

  • Cases – Save your brass; it’s reusable.

  • Bullets – Cast lead for budget shooting, jacketed for precision.

  • Primers – Small/Large Pistol & Rifle; standard or magnum.

  • Powder – Each caliber requires specific burn rates. Follow manuals.

🔸 Safety First

  • Always double-check powder charges.

  • Use only published load data.

  • Inspect brass and primers before loading.

  • Never sell reloads without an FFL license (liability risk).

🔸 Getting Started

Starter reloading kits make it simple to dive in — just add components.
Tip: If your kit includes a balance beam scale, consider upgrading to digital for speed and ease.
